Baku / 14.10.17 / Turan: Ex-Minister of Culture of France, Audrey Azule, was elected on Friday to the post of Director-General of UNESCO. She urged the member countries of the organization to reform it, but not to leave. On the eve of the United States announced a decision to withdraw from UNESCO. The country will remain a member of this international organization until December 31, 2018, and from 2019 will be in the status of observer.

Following this, Israel announced its intention to leave the organization. News of the US withdrawal and Israel's plans came at a time when the 202nd session of the UNESCO Executive Board is taking place in Paris.
