International Conference on Improving Methodology of Education

Baku / 16.11.17 / Turan: An international conference titled Learning to Learn was opened in the European Azerbaijan School on November 16. The two-day conference is organized by the Azerbaijan Teacher Development Center together with the European Azerbaijan Society. Teachers of various universities and schools of the country take part in its work.

Opening the event, the director of the Center, Graeme Pollock, said that within the framework of the conference master classes for teachers of Azerbaijani universities will be held with the purpose of developing their skills, practical application of ideas expressed at the conference to improve the level of students' education.

He introduced three well-known foreign teachers-innovators, whose experience and knowledge will be useful for the local audience.

So, the teacher from Canada Lane Clark shared with the audience her interesting experience and methodology. "The main task of the teacher is to interest the student in gaining knowledge and understanding how this can improve his life and the lives of others. A student is not a machine for gathering information, he must feel that he needs knowledge that is useful to him and gives him the opportunity to change the world around for the better," she said.

Lane Clark emphasized the personal qualities of the teacher to achieve the result. A student should see in the teacher a person who helps him to understand difficult questions.

The student's right to his own opinion, alternative to the opinion of others, his right to seek answers to questions is an indispensable condition for the progress of a fully developed personality that can change the life of society for the better and move the country towards progress, she stressed.

The British teacher Matt Bromley believes the learning process is much more successful if it contains the element of a game. "Creativity of teaching, avoiding boring standards, inculcating the qualities of a leader to the pupils - these are the main priorities of today," he said.

The conference continues.

Note that the main idea of the event was the call to give students freedom of thought, not to limit them to ideological frameworks, and not to turn them into insensitive machines for collecting information. -02B-
