Sahil Rzaly and Others Asked for Acquittal

Bakı / 14.11.17 / Turan: Lawyers of Sahil Rzaly and other five people arrested on the Nardaran case are asking for their acquittal. They have filed a cassation appeal against the decision of the Baku Court of Appeal.

"We believe that the decisions of the lower courts in relation to them are illegal and unfounded, which is why we demanded that the court acquit them," said lawyer Elchin Sadygov. According to him, the cassation appeal was accepted for execution by the Board for Criminal Cases of the Supreme Court. On November 28, it will be considered by the judges under the chairmanship of Gulzar Rzayeva.

Members of the unregistered Muslim Unity Movement, Sahil Rzaly, Niftali Veliyev, Anar Aliyev, Elvin Bunyatov, Laif Ahmedov, and Teymur Osmanov were arrested before the Nardaran events. They were convicted under articles 233 (organization of actions that have caused the disturbance of public order and active participation in them) and 315 (resistance and use of force against government officials).

The Sabunchi court sentenced Rzaly to 6 years and 6 months of imprisonment, N. Veliyev - to 5 years and 11 months, A. Aliyev - to 5 years and 11 months, E. Bunyadov - to 6 years and 1 month, L. Ahmedov - to 5 years and 11 months, and T. Osmanov - to 5 years and 11 months.
