Candidate from Authorities in Presidential Elections of 2018 Will Be Ilham Aliyev Again - Ali Aliyev
Baku / 23.12.17 / Turan: Ali Aliyev, chairman of the Citizens and Development Party (CDP), will run for presidency in the 2018 elections. He said this on Saturday at a meeting with activists and supporters of the party.
According to the party's press service, Aliyev noted that the decision to nominate him was made by the CDP Majlis. He expressed regret over the lack of cooperation between the opposition on the eve of the elections, despite such a need.
According to Aliyev, the ruling New Azerbaijan Party will again go to the elections with the incumbent President Ilham Aliyev. The head of CDP believes "there is an agreement between the power groups" on this issue.
As for opponents of the authorities, according to Aliyev, their main resource is the protest electorate, and to consolidate its support the opposition should consolidate itself.
* CDP was established on May 28, 2006 by part of the members of the National Independence Party of Azerbaijan, who left it. The party is headed by Ali Aliyev. He also ran in the presidential election of 2013, but the CEC did not register his candidacy.
** According to the Electoral Code of Azerbaijan, the next presidential election is to be held on Wednesday of the third week of October 2018.
In accordance with the amendments made to the Constitution of Azerbaijan at the referendum on September 26, 2016, the head of state will be elected for a period of 7 years from the upcoming elections. -06D--

President Ilham Aliyev’s remarks at the international forum "COP29 and green vision for Azerbaijan," held at ADA University, emphasized the continued closure as a security measure, yet the broader implications suggest a complex interplay of domestic and international factors.
