The oppositionist again denied parole
Baku / 04.12.17 / Turan: On Tuesday, in jail N16, the appeal of the member of the Presidium of the Supreme Mejlis of the Popular Front Party Mamed Ibrahim on parole in connection with the half-term serving was considered at the Surakhani district court's exit session. The court rejected the request, his relatives said. Judge Elchin Agayev believes that Mamed Ibrahim "did not improve, and does not follow the rules of the colony's order". The defense will appeal.
Ibrahim was arrested on September 30, 2015 on charges of hooliganism (221.1), a complaint was filed by Mikayil Guliyev - a former member of the PFPA. Later, this Article was re-qualified for Article 221.2.2 (hooliganism with the use of weapons).
On March 15 the Narimanov court 15 found Ibrahim guilty and sentenced him to 3 years in prison.
In connection with the pass of 1/3 of the term, Ibrahim has already applied to the court to mitigate the punishment and transfer him to a colony-settlement. However, on November 25, 2016, the Surakhani District Court rejected the petition. Human rights organizations have recognized Ibrahim as a political prisoner. -06B -

In the annals of Azerbaijan's oil-rich history, the name Witold Zglenicki may not readily come to mind, yet his contributions to the burgeoning oil industry of the late 19th and early 20th centuries are profound and enduring. As the Polish Embassy in Azerbaijan recently commemorated his legacy on April 22 with the presentation of a book detailing his remarkable life, questions arise about why this towering figure remains largely overlooked in the streets and monuments of Baku.
