Baku / 28.12.17 / Turan: Today, the verdict on the men accused on the so-called Nardaran Case-2 was read out in the Baku Grave Crimes Court.

The figurants of the case are the deputy chairman of the Muslim Unity Movement Elchin Gasimov and 11 other believers.

Gasimov was arrested in administrative order on November 5, 2015. After the special operation in Nardaran against the leader of the Muslim Unity Movement Taleh Bagirzadeh and a group of his supporters, he was accused of trying to seize power, terrorism, riots, drug traffic and other serious crimes.

Similar cases involved arresting other defendants in the case.

All the accused are members of the Muslim Unity Movement.

Today the court sentenced Elchin Gasimov and Agali Yakhyaev to 15 years of imprisonment. Ramil Aliyev received 14 years in prison, Nahid Gahramanov - 13 years. Elgun Akhundov, Isa Ibrahimov, Vusal Alysh, and Farhad Muradov were each sentenced to 12.5 years of imprisonment. Seymour Aslanov, Seyfaddin Shirvanov, Ali Shahbazov and Amirli Aliyev received 12 years and 3 months in prison.

All the defendants at the trial rejected the accusations and announced the use of torture against them during the preliminary investigation in the Main Department for Combating Organized Crime of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with a view to giving confessions.

The lawyers stated numerous violations during the preliminary investigation and at the trial.

Note that according to the Nardaran events, two large groups of 18 and 12 people (Nardaran Case-1 and Nardaran Case-2) have already been sentenced to long terms of prison punishment on charges of grave and especially grave crimes.

About 50 more people were convicted on charges of drug trafficking and violation of public order for a period of 2 to 6 years.

Local human rights activists have acknowledged the people arrested on the Nardaran events political prisoners. -03B06--
