The arrest of Afgan Mukhtarli prolonged for two months
Baku / 17.08.17 / Turan: Today's decision of the Nasimi district court extended the term of restraint in the form of arrest against journalist Afgan Mukhtarly for another two months - until the end of October, according to his lawyer Nemat Kerimli.
According to Mukhtarli, he was abducted in Tbilisi on May 29 and transferred to Azerbaijan, where he was arrested on charges of "illegal crossing of the border" (318.1), 206.1 (smuggling) and 315.2 (resistance to a representative of the government using force.)
At today's trial, Mukhtarly again stated that he was arrested for political reasons because of conducting journalistic investigations of corruption in the highest echelons of power in Azerbaijan. These publications were published on Meydan.tv. "The authorities of Azerbaijan cannot arrest the head of the website Emin Milli, who lives in Germany, so I was kidnapped from Tbilisi," the lawyer said.
According to the lawyer, a month ago, the Prosecutor General's Office of Georgia appealed to the Azerbaijani side with a request to interrogate Mukhtarly. However, the Azerbaijani side has not yet responded to this appeal. -06D--
