Baku / 17.01.18 / Turan: Last year the investigation was completed on 214 criminal cases against 305 officials on corruption charges and sent to the courts, the head of the Office for Combating Corruption under the Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev said at today's press conference.
These criminal cases are connected with misappropriation and embezzlement using official position, fraud, abuse of official authority, bribery, official forgery and other crimes, Aliyev said.
In order to compensate for damage as a result of corruption, property worth more than 15 million manat was seized.
The courts provided compensation for damages in the amount of 27.5 million manat, which amounted to 33% of the total amount of damage of 83.5 million manat.
Aliyev said that his administration last year examined 7,809 citizens' appeals and conducted an investigation into 280 criminal cases.
However, Kamran Aliyev did not say anything about the investigation of such high-profile cases as the arrests of more than 20 officers of the former Ministry of National Security accused of embezzlement, extortion and other serious crimes.
He also ignored another high-profile case of major embezzlement and corruption in the Ministry of Communications, where more than 70 million manat was stolen.
