Court Invited Kyiv Prosecutor's Office to Withdraw Protest in Fikret Huseynli Case

Baku / 22.11.17 / Turan: Proceedings in the appeal court of the city of Kyiv on the journalist Fikret Huseynli"s case are postponed again, the journalist himself told Turan.

Huseyni emigrated from Azerbaijan to the Netherlands and obtained the citizenship of this country.

He was detained on October 14 before his flight from Kyiv to Dusseldorf on the basis of Azerbaijan's request through Interpol. In Azerbaijan he is accused of fraud and illegal crossing of borders.

On October 18, the Borispol City Court of Ukraine arrested him for 18 days to consider the issue of his extradition to Azerbaijan.

Huseynli rejected the charges, calling the criminal case against him a political order.

On October 27, Lukyanovka Court of Kyiv released Huseynli on bail of Deputy of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Mikola Knyazhitsky and a public figure Boris Zakharov. At the same time, the court rejected the state prosecutor's request to extradite Huseynli to Azerbaijan.

The Kyiv prosecutor's office filed an appeal against the release of Huseynli and demanded his arrest. On December 27, the period for considering the protest expired.

According to Huseynli, the judge stated that two months had passed since the filing of the appellate protest and it lost its relevance. He recommended the prosecutor's office withdraw the protest.

If, however, the prosecutor's office insists, the protest will be considered on January 31. -06D--
