Baku / 18.01.18 / Turan: The reconsideration of the complaint of journalist Javid Shiraliyev, scheduled for January 18 in the Ganja Court of Appeal, did not take place. The reason is the replacement of the presiding judge. The hearing was postponed until 25 January, said mother of the journalist.

The editor of 7gun.az, Javid Shiraliyev, was sentenced to five years of imprisonment on May 22, 2016 by the Ganja Serious Crimes Court on charges of extortion through threats (articles 182.2.1 and 182.2.4 of the Criminal Code). Shiraliyev was detained by the officer of the Interior Ministry on August 30, 2014 and charged that, in collusion with Orujev, Asif in June 2013 extorted 2,000 manats from Khankishiyev Shafiga, threatening to spread compromising material about her and her cafe in the village of Govlar in the Tovuz region. In fact, the defense presented a document from the tax department that such a cafe was not at all in the Tovuz region. It should be noted that Javid Shiraliyev is being persecuted after in the end of December 2012 he reported to the media about the violation of the rights of the poet Bakhtiyar Hidayat at the border "Red Bridge".

According to the defense, the court could not prove Shiraliyev's guilt and all the testimonies are based on the statements of one person - Shafiga Khankishieva, who has problems with justice.

In August, the Supreme Court partially granted Shiraliyev's complaint and returned the case to the Ganja Court of Appeal for reconsideration. The Institute for Peace and Democracy, the Alliance "Azerbaijan without Political Prisoners" and the Monitoring Center for Political Prisoners included Shiraliyev in the list of 158 political prisoners of Azerbaijan. -06D-
