Baku / 05.02.18 / Turan: "This is a matter arising from the Constitution and it belongs to the competence of the head of state." This is how Aydin Mirzazadeh, an MP from the ruling New Azerbaijan Party, commented on the appointment of an extraordinary presidential election for April 11 for Turan.

He explained the holding of early elections with the fact that in 2018 a number of events of state importance are planned, including the 100th anniversary of the Azerbaijan People's Republic, which require time to organize. In his opinion, after the early elections there will be time to hold these events.

Non-partisan MP Zahid Oruj does not see anything extraordinary in holding early elections. According to him, there are early elections in international practice.

Oruj pointed out that there is no emergency situation in the country. In 2016, the Constitution was amended to extend the term of office of the President to 7 years and the current decision is more associated with the requirement of this rule.

He rejected the allegations that early elections have the goal of putting the opposition in time trouble. In his opinion, the opposition has no social base or support from the electorate, as well as serious resources, and this is the reason for its defeat. -05D06--
