Retirement Age Grows against Decreased Life Expectancy in Azerbaijan
Baku / 19.03.18 / Turan: Azerbaijan lags far behind Georgia in terms of life expectancy. For comparison, for every 1,000 people in this neighboring country, there are 34 people over 80 years of age. In Azerbaijan, for every 1,000 people, only 13 people are older than this age threshold, the economist Rovshan Agayev told Turan.
According to official statistics for 2017 for each of the two countries, the population over 80 in Georgia (the population of 3.7 million) was 127 thousand people. In Azerbaijan (the population of 9.8 million) it was 129 thousand people. According to the expert, the life expectancy of the population depends on a number of social and economic factors, such as the features of the socio-psychological environment, natural and climatic factors, a healthy lifestyle, the quality of the health system, working conditions, etc.
In general, it is about one of the important indicators that reflect the quality of life of the population. Scientists believe that the average duration of human life is 110-115 and even 120-140 years. However, the impact of many biological and socio-economic factors leads to a significant decrease in this indicator. It is noteworthy that during the Soviet period, Azerbaijan was considered a country of long-livers.
Meanwhile, a low level of the above indicator insures against the financial risks of the pension system, the economist believes. For example, a strong burden on this social institution in Georgia is caused by a relatively large number of citizens of retirement age - people over 64 years of age make up 15% of the country's population. In Azerbaijan they are 6.3%. At the same time, the relatively high birth rate in the country adjoins the high mortality rate in the age group over 65.
It is noteworthy that from July 1, 2017, the updated law "On labor pensions" came into force in Azerbaijan, according to which the retirement age of men will be brought to 65 for 4 years, and for women for 10 years. Thus, the retirement age for men will increase annually by 6 months until 2021, and for women - until 2027. The main reason for this step was the lack of funding that the State Social Protection Fund (SSPF) may face. However, judging by the comparative life expectancy data, high mortality among the population over 65 years in Azerbaijan did not prevent the government from using inhuman methods of saving budget funds. --0-

The Business Continuity test of Azercell's CMG project was conducted in the Alat Free Economic Zone. A real-time Business Continuity test of the CMG – Crisis Management Group of Azercell, which is a leading mobile operator in the country, was conducted in the Alat Free Economic Zone. For implementation of the first tests Azercell was partnering with Azercosmos, Aztelekom, and Baktelecom. During the simulation, a crisis was created by completely cutting off communication in the designated area. Technical teams from the regions arrived at the scene during the crisis drill, initiating efforts to restore communication. Initially, groups installed two mobile Base Stations in the area, providing 2G service to a limited number of subscribers using facilities of the national satellite. In the next stage, high-speed internet, 3G, and 4G networks were restored, and the area was equipped with 100-megabit Wi-Fi service. It's worth noting that in comparison to previous tests, the recovery time was reduced by half in this simulation test. All mentioned recovery operations were carried out by teams from the regions and the groups of experts specially trained by Azercell.
