Baku / 12.11.19 / Turan: In the residence of the Ambassador of Great Britain on November 12, a meeting was held with the delegation of the Paralympic Committee of this country.

Speaking at the event, Ambassador of the United Kingdom James Sharp made a brief excursion into the history of the Paralympic movement. It began in 1948 after World War II with the competitions of soldiers in archery.

“Later, the Paralympic Games turned into a global movement. But even today archery is one of the pillars of the movement,” the Ambassador continued.

He also touched on the participation of Azerbaijani Paralympics at the games in London.

"Paralympics of Azerbaijan are the object of pride of your country," the Ambassador said.

“Cases committed by persons with disabilities in Azerbaijan delight us and the achievements of these people are excellent,” the Ambassador said.

Next came the representative of the British Paralympic Committee, Tony Sainesbury.

He expressed confidence that the cooperation between the British Embassy and the Paralympic Committee of Azerbaijan will be successful.

In turn, the head of the Paralympic Committee of Azerbaijan, Ilgar Rahimov, said that this structure, jointly with the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, will organize events called "Unconquered" on November 13.

Besides British representatives, delegations from Pakistan, Moldova and other countries will also take part in the event.

Rahimov also spoke about the preparation of Azerbaijani Paralympics for the Games in Tokyo 2020.

 At the same time, he noted that at the Paralympic Games in London in 2012, Azerbaijani athletes showed the best results in their history.

Persons with disabilities who participated in the British Council projects also spoke at the event. They talked about the experience gained in these projects. — 16D--
