According to the Public TV of Georgia, his powers were suspended in June 2018, when he was detained on charges of mocking a local resident Elchin Alahverdiyev, who used bad words on Facebook addressed to the wife of Abazov and the wife of the head of the "Georgian Dream" Bidzina Ivanishvili.
Abazov was detained after the appearance on the Internet of a video about the humiliation of Allahverdiyev. He was made apologize, and then wash his own urine. According to the investigation, first he was beaten up by the parliament"s deputy from the United National Movement party, Azer Suleymanov, a member of the district council of Marneuli, Ramin Alahverdiyev. In December last year, the Rustavi District Court released Abazov on bail of 10,000 Lari (3.8 thousand dollars).
"Today, my lawyers filed a statement with the city council of Marneuli about my resignation. I hope that the court will be objective and will justify me," Abazov told Public Television.
He faces from 5 to 10 years in prison. Criminal proceedings were instituted against Alahverdiyev, Guliyev and Suleymanov under the Article "Violence committed by a group of persons". The accused face fine or community service for a period of 180 to 240 hours or imprisonment for up to 2 years. -02D-
