Azerbaijani film for the first time at Cannes Film Festival “Criticism Week”

Baku / 04.06.20 / Turan: The film by Teymur Hajiyev's "Axşama doğru" is included in the "Criticism Week" of the 73rd Cannes Film Festival. According to the creators of the tape, this is the first Azerbaijani picture selected in this prestigious program for all 59 years of its existence.

"Axşama doğru" is the story of a young couple who went on a family feast outside the city. However, disagreements on a domestic matter force them to make an unforeseen stop, because of which the hero finds herself in an awkward, but predictable, situation.

Made in the format of a short meter, "Axşama doğru" is an example of a search for a new cinema language aimed at extracting the "third meaning", which, according to the French philosopher Roland Barthe, cannot be described in words, but there is a quality inherent exclusively in cinema.

The tape was created by FIL PRODUCTION and Mandarin Agency with the support of Azerbaijan Public Television.

“Critique Week” (La Semaine dela Critique) is the oldest parallel program of the Cannes Film Festival, founded in 1962 by the French syndicate of film critics.

The mission of this program is the discovery of new names in world cinema and their support in the initial stages of a career. The result of the search for new talents is a program of 5 full-length and 10 short films, which is annually presented to the public in parallel with the official competition of the Cannes Film Festival.

Among the directors whose early films have been selected for this section are world-class cinemas such as Bernardo Bertolucci, Otar Ioseliani, Ken Loach, Wong Kar-wai, Jacques Odiar, Guillermodel Toro, Gaspar Noé, Leos Carax, Kevin Smith, Francois Ozones Ozon and . -02B-
