No Information on Fuad Gahramanli for More Than Two Weeks
Baku / 16.09.20 / Turan: There is no information about the 1 member of the Board of the Popular Front Party, Fuad Gahramanli, held in the pre-trial detention center for more than two weeks. This was reported by members of his family.
“The last time he called home was on September 1 and asked for a change of clothes, sedatives, an apparatus for changing blood sugar and food,” a family member told Turan.
The situation with Gahramanli's condition remains unclear. After his arrest on 23 July, human rights activists reported his severe torture. Then Gahramanli was forced to abandon his lawyer, threatened with persecution of his relatives.
It is impossible to get comments from the Penitentiary Service. Relatives cannot meet with him, and they do not trust the state-appointed lawyer.
Let us remind you that the authorities accused Gahramanli and dozens of other PFPA members of organizing a demonstration on July 14-15 and riots. Criminal cases were initiated against 17 of them for organizing riots, attempting to seize power, resisting the police, and others. Another 15 people were arrested in administrative order.-03B-

In the annals of Azerbaijan's oil-rich history, the name Witold Zglenicki may not readily come to mind, yet his contributions to the burgeoning oil industry of the late 19th and early 20th centuries are profound and enduring. As the Polish Embassy in Azerbaijan recently commemorated his legacy on April 22 with the presentation of a book detailing his remarkable life, questions arise about why this towering figure remains largely overlooked in the streets and monuments of Baku.
