Baku/01.12.21/Turan: Saleh Rustamov's health status remains to be grave, said his lawyer Bahruz Bayramov who failed to meet today with an examining doctor.
"There is a medical control: tests are being taken and blood pressure measured," the lawyer said.
According to him, on November 30, Saleh Rustamov was visited by human rights activists Novella Jafaroglu, Saida Gojamanly, Saadat Bananyarly and the head of the public supervisory committee under the Ministry of Justice Alimamed Nuriyev.
"Human rights activists asked Saleh to stop the hunger strike. However, he refused as saying he would not allow forced feeding," said the lawyer, .
The authorities have not yet responded to numerous appeals by intellectuals, leaders of NGOs, political parties and international organizations calling for the release of Rustamov .
In turn, human rights activist Novella Jafaroglu told Turan that Rustamov has lost 15 kilograms.
"We are concerned that the hunger strike will have serious consequences for his body," Jafaroglu said as noting that they have already appealed to the country's President.
"We are trying to meet with Presidential aide Fuad Aleskerov and get the charges mitigated so that he would fall under amnesty.
It has to be emphasized that Saleh Rustamov is a decent man. We want his release and that of other political prisoners, so that the country is not subjected to international criticism," Jafaroglu said.
* Supporter of the Party of People's Front of Azerbaijan (PPFA) and veteran of the first Karabakh war Saleh Rustamov was arrested in May 2018 and sentenced to 7 years and 3 months of imprisonment in the so-called "illegal financing of the PPFA" case. Human rights activists recognized him as a political prisoner. Subsequently, the Supreme Court reduced his sentence by 2 months.
