US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State on the main threats in the Karabakh settlement
Baku/08.04.21/Turan: The United States is ready to help Armenia and Azerbaijan in resolving the conflict, if Baku and Yerevan are interested in this. As reported by the Armenian service of Radio Liberty, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State George Kent stated this during an online seminar.
He made it clear that the United States can participate in the search for peace as a co-chair of the Minsk Group. However, the degree of US involvement depends on Baku and Yerevan, as well as on politicians and Moscow.
Russia "decided not to agree on the terms of a ceasefire through the mechanism of the Minsk Group," but "did it directly through the trilateral format" (Russia-Azerbaijan-Armenia). The main threat to security remains the issue of the readiness of Armenia and Azerbaijan to agree on the final status.
"Azerbaijan can be perceived as the winner of the war, but this does not lead to the resolution of the crisis, just as it was when Armenia won the first war a quarter of a century ago," Kent said. At the same time, “favorable opportunities are opening up” in the issue of warming up the Armenian-Turkish relations. “It may not be this month, not this year, but in the future,” Kent said. -02D-
